Seeing bodies in rivers across the border has spread fear among locals, identification process underway
The effects of the devastating floods in Nepal have reached India across the border, where fear and concern spread at the local level after the recovery of 7 bodies from rivers.
According to Indian media, several people went missing after severe floods in Nepal, some of whom are feared to have been swept away the floodwaters and reached India.
According to reports, after the water level in the Narayani river decreased, people on the banks of the river saw bodies floating in the water. On seeing the scene, people there were scared and many people immediately moved away from the riverbank.
According to Indian authorities, a total of 7 unidentified bodies have been found in the Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts of Uttar Pradesh. Four bodies were recovered in Maharajganj while three more bodies were recovered from Kushinagar.
Authorities have started the process of identifying the bodies. According to initial reports, the bodies recovered include five women and two men.
Indian Border Force personnel saw the bodies floating in the water while monitoring the river area, after which they were pulled out of the river with the help of rescue teams.
The floods have caused widespread destruction in Nepal and several people are still missing. Relief agencies on both sides are continuing search operations in the affected areas, while searches are also being carried out in the lower reaches of the rivers for missing persons.
The effects of the floodwaters coming from Nepal have been felt in Indian areas for about 200 kilometers, which can be used to gauge the severity of the situation. Officials say that the situation in the affected areas is being continuously monitored.
