Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley has spoken about her time with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 explaining that she was chosen to play Mary Jane Watson and even shot scenes for the movie but none of those scenes ended up in the version.
Woodley said Spider-Man had always been one of her superheroes and Mary Jane was a character she had adored since she was a child. Getting the role was a deal for her.
She shared that she filmed three scenes with Andrew Garfield, who played Peter Parker. However a year later she got a phone call saying she would no longer be part of the movie.
According to Woodley she was told the movie already had new characters and that the directors wanted to focus on the story of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy played Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The idea was to bring in Mary Jane in a movie.
That plan never happened because a third movie in Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man series was never made. So Woodley never had the chance to play Mary Jane again.
Looking back on the change Woodley talked about it with a light-hearted attitude. She joked that maybe there was another reason, for the decision. Perhaps her acting was so bad that the directors decided to leave her out of the movie.
